History of the Life and Earth Sciences: Biology and Geology.ReviewsAuthor InformationThomas Brobjer is a professor at the Department of the History of Science and Ideas at Uppsala University, Sweden (and has also been a visiting scholar at the University of Sussex, Freie Universität, Berlin, the University of Texas at Austin and Stockholm University). He has a double doctorate, both in molecular physics/theoretical chemistry and in intellectual history, suitable for an author of an atlas of the history of science. He has published extensively, several books and over 70 scholarly articles, mostly on different aspects of Nietzsche’s thought, including on Nietzsche’s relation to the natural sciences of his time. Brobjer has been responsible for much of the teaching of the history of modern science at the Department of the History of Science and Ideas at Uppsala University for over 15 years. He has now written a sort of textbook of, or companion to, the study of the history of science, entitled Atlas of the History of Modern Science 1500-2020. Brobjer is a keen outdoor man, camping, and in winter-time, cross country skiing and leading long-distance skating tours. He was in part inspired to the present work by his experience and awareness of the value and importance of conventional maps for understanding landscapes.
