Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationDr. Frantzides is the Director of the Chicago Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery (CIMIS) and Director of the Laparoscopic and Bariatric Fellowship Program. He is a visiting Professor of Surgery at the University of Illinois. He is recognized worldwide as an expert in the field of laparoscopic surgery and is a charter member of the United States Laparoscopic Founders Society. His experience in laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery is one of the most extensive in the United States. Dr. Frantzides created the Minimally Invasive Surgery Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and was the Director of the center from 1995-1997. Dr. Frantzides has served as the Director of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Center and professor of surgery at the University of Chicago from 1997 to 2000. Dr. Frantzides was the Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago and professor of surgery at Rush University. He was also the director of Minimally Invasive Surgery (2003-2006) and director of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship Program (2003-2008) at Northshore University Health System. Dr. Frantzides was also Professor of Surgery at Northwestern University from 2004-2009. Dr. Carlson is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, with a part-time appointment at the Omaha VA Medical Center. He is Principal Investigator of a federally-funded research laboratory at UNMC, performing basic and preclinical research on solid tumor, limb ischemia, hemostasis, wound healing, and biomaterials, with interest in the use of large animal models. In addition, Dr. Carlson is the Director of UNMC's Center for Advanced Surgical Technology (CAST), which focuses on developing novel surgical technologies for the clinic. He also participates in education, training, and outcomes-based research. Dr. Carlson completed two Fellowships, one in Minimally Invasive Surgery at MCW in 1996 and then one in Wound Healing at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 1999. Dr. Carlson is a clinically active surgeon whose interests include Minimally Invasive Surgery, Foregut Surgery, Abdominal Wall Reconstruction, and Emergency General Surgery.
