Overview

Definitions of divine wisdom among believers today are united only by their tendency toward vagueness or abstraction. As a result, pursuing wisdom or developing a heart of wisdom are not desired objectives even for serious believers or for the Church as a whole. At His Side: Divine Wisdom and the Church in Partnership with God replaces such popular beliefs with a bold, new paradigm: first, that personified Wisdom-as-a-woman in the Proverbs is a powerful prophetic picture of the Church, and second, wisdom is an essential virtue of the Bride of Christ if she is to effectively collaborate with God to reveal His manifold wisdom to the world. After beginning with a lively portrait of Woman Wisdom synthesized from key Old Testament passages, the author shows how the wisdom of God appeared in Solomon, the exemplary public and private man, and in Daniel, who represents a type of the righteous believer. Complementing these portraits are discussions of the seven practical virtues of wisdom listed in Proverbs 8:12, and the seven spiritual virtues of wisdom found in James 3:17, virtues that come from Jesus-the true source of all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. In the closing chapters and in three provocative Appendices, the reader will learn how and why the Church is to take her place at the side of her husband, Jesus, to bring God's heavenly blueprints to the earth.
