OverviewThis study examined the ability of Accra Technical University fashion design graduates to assess the quality of garment production and its impact on sustainability. A case study approach was employed, using fashion design graduates from the Accra Technical University Fashion Department, who completed their studies between 2015 and 2020. A questionnaire was administered to 210 graduates to collect data related to the study's objectives. Descriptive analysis was performed using SPSS (version 20). The results showed that fashion design graduates from ATU (2015-2020) were capable of assessing garment quality before, during, and after production. They demonstrated adequate knowledge of factors affecting garment quality. However, limited access to testing equipment was a challenge, affecting a few respondents. The study suggests that ensuring garment quality is vital for the sustainability of the clothing industry, as it enhances durability and extends the lifespan of garments. The training on quality evaluation of fashion and garments received from the ATU needs to be upgraded. The study contributes to existing literature on quality assessment in garment as well as sustainable fashion.
