OverviewProblematic: Pain is one of the most complex and frequent phenomena in medicine. Aim of work: To describe the knowledge and practices of doctors in the emergency departments of CHU Habib Bourguiba and the regional hospital of Mahres regarding pain management methods. Materials and methods: Observational cross-sectional study conducted in the emergency departments of CHU Habib Bourguiba in Sfax and the regional hospital of Mahres over a period of 3 months. Results: We compared the group of general practitioners (n=25) with the group of residents and interns (n=75). General practitioners had more postgraduate training (p=0.004) and more knowledge of analgesia protocols (p=0.008). They used more pain assessment scales (p=0.011) and prescribed more paracetamol-codeine (p=0.006). Conclusion: The implementation of guidelines and recommendations in emergency departments is necessary to optimize pain management.
