Author Information

Born and raised in a patriarchal Indian society, Dr. Anita Jhunjhunwala Mukherjee strived from an early age to find her identity beyond the predefined gender roles. After her three years at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, led her to her dream of being a computer engineer, Dr. Mukherjee went to the Iowa State University to complete her master's. Returning to India to be an entrepreneur, she worked in the software industry of different countries for many years. After moving to Silicon Valley, she volunteered with a number of non-profit organizations, and while working extensively with at-risk population, a desire to acquire the necessary professional tools propelled her to complete a doctorate in counseling psychology. This enables her to work for the causes that she believes in, and further the need to focus on mental health and quality of life rather than physical health and material possessions. Her research was featured on the award winning television show Chai with Manjula (www.chaiwithmanjula.com/media/SeniorsfromIndia.html) aired on public channels in the Bay Area in 2012.
