As Long As The Candle Burns is the memoir of Chana Bunim Rubin Ausubel. The daughter of Irving Bunim, a prominent twentieth-century Orthodox Jewish leader, Chana shares stories of her family's involvement in the Vaad Hatzolah, the founding of the Young Israel movement, and Jewish outreach spanning more than 50 years. Having been through a divorce at a time when it was uncommon in the Jewish community, Chana openly discusses the challenges of supporting and raising four children in a single-parent home, in a religious community. Chana also shares some of the moving and inspiring stories culled from her experiences throughout her working career. Author Information

Chana Bunim Rubin Ausubel was born in 1932 in New York, the daughter of Blanche and Irving Bunim. Her father was a well-known author, speaker and leader of 20th-century American Jewry and one of the founders of the Vaad Hatzolah, and the Young Israel movement. She received her teaching degree from Beit Midrash l'Morot, which is now Stern College, and was awarded diplomas from Hunter College and NYU's graduate school of Administrative Psychology. Mrs. Rubin Ausubel has devoted her life to helping the Jewish people and to Israel. She has been a teacher, director, public speaker, and activist for many organizations, including the New York Conference for Soviet Jewry, Field Director of Emunah Women of America, the founder of Gush Emunim in America, and a catalyst for the founding of the settlement town of Beit El. She served as director of the English division of Machon Ora, Machon Meir's Women's division, and Machon Maayan Bina, a school for new immigrants needing conversion in Israel. Mrs. Rubin Ausubel lives in Jerusalem.
