"Rev. Alfred R. Twyman Jr. believes in the power of prayer and it's ability to transform lives. He has worked in parish and prison ministry for more than twenty-four years as a pastor and chaplain, where he has lead prayer groups and taught prayer as a major pastoral technique to a variety of denominations. As Long as I Have Breath is a compilation of some of the prayers that Rev. Twyman has said over his years of ministry. He believes that prayer is a combination of hope, humility, and faith-and that it offers freedom and gives people a sense of place in the world. He insists that prayer provides a relationship with God that anchors and strengthens the soul. Born and raised in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, during the 1950s, Twyman grew up in a time of segregation when the Black Church and prayer meetings were essential to survival. He often says, ""We lived to pray and prayed to live during those times."" Twyman is a retired Navy officer and graduate of the Naval War College, where he earned a master's degree in Strategic Theory and Foreign Affairs. He studied for pastoral ministry at Princeton Theological Seminary, where he earned a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) with a concentration in Christian Ethics. He was awarded the Princeton Seminary Ethics Award for his work in prison and urban ministry. Rev. Twyman is an ordained minister in The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and holds standing in the United Church of Christ. He currently serves as a regional chaplain for the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision."
