Author Information

Susie Hodge Susie is an art expert and author with more than 100 books under her belt, and a fellowship from the Royal Society of Arts. As well as writing about art, she has given talks on topics ranging from Ancient Egyptian artists to Impressionism and modern art, and has appeared on multiple documentaries. Her past books include popular titles such as Why Is Art Full of Naked People? and Why Your Five Year Old Could Not Have Done That- Modern Art Explained - which use Susie's wealth of knowledge and fun, accessible style to introduce young and older readers to the daunting world of art. Jessamy Hawke works in ink, gouache, watercolour, and linocut-printmaking, and was the illustrator of DK's Explorers (2019), Inventors (2020), and Scientists (2021). She graduated with an MA in Illustration from Kingston University in 2016. Jessamy's project ""A Midnight Clear'', based on William Wharton's wartime novel, was shortlisted for the 2016 V&A Student Illustrator of the Year Award and was displayed in the V&A Museum in London, and she was Runner-Up in the Little White Lies Creative Brief competition in March 2017. Jessamy's work has been exhibited in solo shows in London and Oxford. She is also the author of the art blog aestronauts.com. Her work can be found at jessamyhawke.co.uk or on Instagram under the handle @jessamydrewthat.
