OverviewThe study analyzed the use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool to promote educational equity in university students with disabilities. A quantitative, descriptive-correlational research was conducted with a sample of 109 of 663 students at the University of Sonora during the 2024-2025 cycle. The results indicated that most students consider AI accessible and useful to improve their academic performance, facilitating the understanding of content, reducing homework time and allowing autonomous study. An increase in academic autonomy was also observed, although barriers related to infrastructure and inequality in access to technologies persisted. It is concluded that AI has a high potential to reduce educational gaps, provided that inclusive policies, resources and strategies are implemented to ensure equitable access.
