OverviewARTHEMIST lighthouse 48 documents a year of performance actions by Norwegian artist Bjorn Veno, with a foreword by philosopher Hans-Georg Moeller. Across 54 filmed gestures, still images, and experimental poetry, the book becomes a ritual, an invitation to perceive beyond the surface of art and language. There is no fear of failure, no guardrails leading to success in these words and images. They fumble their way through darkness, into the uncaring embrace of the unknown, where words are eaten by fish. Shot and written on the island of Venoya, Lighthouse 48 merges photography, performance, text, and philosophy into a single act of creation. Each page oscillates between documentation and incantation, image and word, presence and absence. Grounded in Veno's philosophy of Arthemy, art as alchemy, the work challenges the commodification of art and the passive gaze of spectatorship. It is not a record of art made for display, but a living archive of struggle, perception, and becoming. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationBjorn Veno (also spelled Bjørn Venø) (b. 1979, living and working in Norway) is an Arthemist, an artist blending art and alchemy. Working through free association and intuition, he treats art as intentional action rather than product. His practice investigates energy, failure, identity, gender, and metaphysics through the lens of transformation and the attributes of the fool. His work aims to open a space for exploration and presence of mind. It resists reducing art to commodity and spectacle, staying close to uncertainty, effort, and the unknown. He is the author of ARTHEMIST STATEMENT 2.6: Why create art that nobody asked for? (www.bjornveno.com) Hans-Georg Moeller is a Professor at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of Macau. He authored numerous books including You and Your Profile: Identity after Authenticity, Genuine Pretending: On the Philosophy of the Zhuangzi (both with Paul D'Ambrosio), The Moral Fool: A Case for Amorality, The Radical Luhmann, and The Philosophy of the Daodejing, (all with Columbia University Press). He is content creator of the YouTube philosophy channels Carefree Wandering and Philosophy in Motion. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
