Kress Collection The situation in America with regard to art had changed since the Kress Collection was originally planned. Many people were now going abroad and much European art was being acquired by the larger American museums. Exhibition Space was becoming limited, even in the recently built National Gallery. It was therefore decided not to enlarge the National Gallery's total Kress Collection but to concentrate upon enriching it.
