OverviewIn Ars Theurgia Goetia, English alchemist and sorceror Gary Nottingham presents a precise and practical guide to working with the versatile spirits and wandering princes of the Theurgia Goetia, part of the seventeenth century Lemegeton, one of the most influential and significant of all grimoires. The full seals of the spirits are given for the first time, plus material from the Steganographia of the Renaissance mage Abbot Trithemius, an earlier work which heavily influenced the formation of this grimoire. Unlike many grimoires, the Theurgia Goetia heavily stresses the direction and conjuration time at which each spirit must be summoned. This is explained using the complex image known as the Compass Rose, which shows the hierarchy of the spirits and the thirty-two directions of their mansions. This work thus offers practitioners unique access in both time and space to the spirits and wandering princes of the Theurgia Goetia. The author includes detailed instructions on the magical tools needed for working with the spirits, including consecrations, the construction of the magic circle and triangle, and the preparation of the altar. The full ritual sequence of preparation, conjurations and license to depart is lucidly demonstrated, making this work suitable for both the beginner and the experienced practitioner. I'm rating it 4 stars instead of 5 because it would be far more practical if Nottingham had given a description of the offices and functions the many groups of spirits have. Just saying, the spirits are good by nature and willing to help the conjuror is too ambiguous to be practical. Otherwise, I think this book is very good and lists many spirits not found in the Lesser Key of Solomon. - Anon, Amazon reviewer This is a very good book and easy to follow instructions. Nottingham first came across alchemy when he was fifteen through reading the popular early 1970's occult magazine 'Man, Myth & Magic.' This encouraged him to find out further about the arte and to study Israel Regardie's 'The Philosopher's Stone'; this in turn led to the works of Hollandus, Paracelsus and eventually Junius. However, it was his involvement with a group of alchemical practitioners that opened many of the doors for him and much that he had learnt finally began to make sense. Subsequently he has taught and written extensively on the alchemical arte, running several one-day workshops and weekends on practical laboratory alchemy. His other areas of occult study are astrology, grimoires, and the Kabbalah, all of which are expressed as part of his alchemical work. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
