Reviews

This book has everything a creative teen could possibly want to know about architecture and design. Danielle is as engaging an educator and historian as there is today; she has worked extensively with teens to broaden their horizons and connect their interests. A must-read for any parent or guidance counselor! --Andrew Daley, AIA, senior associate, SHoP Architects Do you want to design sustainably and learn how to create structures that serve people and the environment? Do you wonder about a day in the life of an architect and the path to licensure? With succinct facts, helpful infographics, and illuminating interviews, architect and educator Danielle Willkens brings us a deep understanding of the profession's history and how the field can balance beauty, community needs, creativity, and functionality. This book is a wonderful add to middle and high school libraries and also an invaluable resource for any humanities teacher or guidance counselor assisting youth in career exploration. Danielle has designed a powerful tool for teens who seek to further explore their passion. --Lyn Fairchild Hawks, young adult author and educator This is the book I wish I had both as a kid curious about architecture and as an architecture professor. The text is delightfully funny and deeply insightful. The diverse opportunities in the multifaceted field of architecture are succinctly and compelling described in ways that invite the reader to engage in exciting new ideas. This is a great foundation for any aspiring architect to start building the structure for a dynamic career. --J. Scott Finn, Gresham Professor Emeritus at School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture and College of Architecture, Design and Construction, Auburn University
