Michel Brix, head of research at the University of Namur (Belgium), is the author of 40 works and some 250 articles devoted to French literature. A significant part of his work concerns Nerval, Sainte-Beuve, and Romanticism. He is also interested in the emergence of the critical modernity which, at the time of Flaubert, put an end to the literary ""Ancien Regime"".
