She is interested in the history of archaeology and the politics of identity in archaeology (heritage, nationalism and colonialism, ethnicity and gender). She has published The Archaeology of Identity (2005), Nationalism and Archaeology (1996, 2001), Excavating Women: A History of Women in European Archaeology (1998), and A World History of Archaeology in the Nineteenth Century: Nationalism, Colonialism and the Past (2007). She has also edited a volume on the prestigious archaeologist Gordon Childe (European Journal of Archaeology, 2009) and a Historical Dictionary of Archaeology in Spain (2009).
