This book is published to coincide with an exhibition of the same name in the Museum Felicien Rops and the Maison de la Culture in Namur. The central theme is the tree, from ancient times to present day art. The tree has always been a source of attraction to men: mystery, protection and veneration. From the trees of good and evil in manuscripts dating back to the Middle Ages, up to the symbolist vision of nineteenth-century artists, the tree has intrigued and fascinated. In our time, contemporary artists continue to be inclined towards this natural element, attempting to grasp its essence.
