Author Information

Adel Amer earned his Ph.D. from the Department of Arabic-Linguistic Studies at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. In Egypt he was the chair of the World Language Department at Cairo American College where he taught both native and non-native Arabic speakers. He has served as a linguistic advisor to the Sesame Street Workshop and also has experience as a news announcer and talk show host. Dr. Amer is currently a faculty member of the Department of Religion and the Department of Linguistics at the University of Georgia, Athens. His research interests include student-centered classrooms in Arabic studies, early Islamic literature, and the phonetics of the Quran. He is the Imam of the Islamic Center in Athens, GA.
