OverviewThe study is an attempt to examines aquaculture as a tool for community sustainable development with emphasis to cultural and economic consideration in 303 housing estate community, ""an area located within Sudan-Sahelian zone"" Jere Local Government Area, Borno State of Nigeria. Data for the study were collected through face to face interview from the 22nd to 27th of each month May, June and July, 2019. The results showed that majority of the fishers were women and aquaculture production system was profitable in the study area. The fishers prioritized aquaculture production system; it had contributed positively to fishers' livelihood and enhances sustainable fisheries development. Aquaculture was not in any way contradictory to the principle of women in fishing activities neither culturally nor religiously. Regulatory framework was not in existence and other support system from government and non-governmental organizations was poor. Recommendations were made that the government, non-governmental organizations, cooperative societies and other major stake holders in the system should initiate policies that will promote aquaculture.
