"Apple Inc. has created a mixed-reality headset called Apple Vision Pro. The product was unveiled at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference on June 5, 2023, and pre-orders were opened on January 19, 2024. It was released in the United States on February 2, 2024. There is no set date for a global launch just yet. This marks the debut of a brand-new product category for Apple after the 2015 launch of the Apple Watch. The Vision Pro, promoted by Apple, is a ""spatial computer"" that combines digital and physical media with the ability to recognize and respond to voice commands, eye movements, and other physical inputs. Apple has refrained from using the words ""virtual reality"" or ""augmented reality"" when describing the product, and the company does not market the headgear as a VR headset either. Using a 3D user interface and mixed-reality operating system based on iOS foundations, VisionOS allows the user to multitask with windows that float within their environment, as viewed via the built-in cameras of the smartphone. To further immerse oneself in the virtual world, one may utilize a dial on top of the headset to cover the camera feed. Avatars, technically referred to as ""Personas"" in the OS, are created by scanning the user's face. The front of the headset, termed ""EyeSight,"" shows a depiction of the avatar's eyes, which help with communication and show how immersed the user is to onlookers.
