The High Desert Branch of the California Writers Club proudly presents their eighth anthology, Anything Goes. As the title suggests, we have created an eclectic work where submissions include many different genres and styles of writing. Our intention with this project was to unfetter our writers, to invite them to feel unshackled and able to try out new forms of literary expression. Writing is a learning process, one filled with opportunities for experimentation and discovery. It is like creating a painting with words, dabbing color and shading where it will best contribute to the whole. It is art where the artist creates a picture with words. Rather than being displayed on canvas for all to see, a writer's art takes shape in the imagination of the reader. When skillfully done, when all the facets come together, the effect is mesmerizing. A well-told story resonates with us and contributes to our understanding of the world and, more importantly, of ourselves. The result this year is forty-nine entries by thirty-one authors. They span a broad range of essays, memoirs, poetry, fiction and non-fiction. We invite you to read these selections, savor their creativity, and engage with our experimentations. And who knows, maybe you'll find that you too want to tell stories, push the boundaries of your knowledge and skill, and discover the delightful freedom that can occur when anything goes.
