Overview"This workbook is based around the ""Anxiety Compass"", and gives control to the individual who struggles with anxiety. Having worked as a Counsellor with both adults & adolescents for a number of years it became evident that a recurring, underlying theme is that of anxiety. Laura has crystallised her approach into an easy to use self help or guided workbook based around the ""Anxiety Compass"". It looks at life as a whole. One part of the 'compass' being out of alignment means that life does not run smoothly. It helps the reader assess their life as it is now, find out what is missing and assists them in planning a future life that is less anxiety driven, by addressing the areas that feel out of balance. They can see where things are going wrong for themselves and can then change things. Laura quotes, ""I have found that change is the key to feeling better. Whether that be a change in behaviour or acceptance of the things out of our control, change is at the root of managing anxiety."" The workbook can be used by individuals or can be worked through collaboratively with another person; a teacher, therapist or a parent. It can be completed at the readers own pace. Not all sections may feel relevant, so the reader can just skip those parts and focus on areas that they know need some attention." Laura is a BACP ( Accredited) therapist and her main focus is on Attachment, Trauma and Adoption. Laura trained as a therapist after adopting 3 children, the youngest had complex needs, Autism, ADHD, & an Attachment disorder. The lack of help and advice meant that Laura researched how to parent such a child and became a therapeutic parent. This knowledge meant that Laura was driven to help others and her Counselling practice was established. Subsequently, she established the Hummingbird Centre to help adoptive parents navigate the waters of parenting traumatised children. The Hummingbird Centre offers bespoke support that meets the needs of the parents and the adopted children, helping to keep the family unit together and thus safeguarding the future of the adoptees. The Anxiety Workbook evolved as Laura worked with many clients, the majority having issues with anxiety. Anxiety was ruling their lives. Using paper to get the thoughts out of they heads, helped them to see their issues from a new perspective. The 'Anxiety Compass' was born as it became clear that life is like a wheel. One part being out of alignment, means that the wheel fails to travel smoothly. Some people need their whole compass to be realigned, some just need to refocus on one part of their life. This way of working empowers the user. Laura's aim in therapy is to empower the client, to restore self esteem, to learn to live their life to full. Therapy should be a process that helps the client take control. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
