None of this happened, though the one about Victoria Woodhull is historic. Otherwise, I made her particular situation up, too. To be honest, fantasy is a spectacular way to sort out our situations, so it's maybe closer to true than we think. Conversely, non-fiction is boring and people end up saying, ""Is that how you really feel about me? Get out of my house, you jerk! I never want to talk to you again!"" The result breaks down into a lifetime of trying to win over shared relatives, splitting families apart for the next three generations. Trust me. It's never good. But with fiction we can say anything we want, and the person we're specifically writing about doesn't have a clue. They're like, ""Golly Moses, Gary. That guy's a complete lulu."" ""Well yeah!"" ""I usually only read non-fiction."" ""I know, but this is almost the same thing, in its own weird way."" Moments like that are always a little awkward, but at least you're still on speaking terms with the person who read the book. Okay, so here's another confession: I wrote every one of these on Sunday night between ten PM and midnight, racing to meet the nine AM Monday deadline. Seriously. If any of these stories seem strange, that's why. It has nothing whatsoever to do with how I normally am, and none of these are about you. I made them all up out of deadline desperation, often with no idea how it was going to go the whole time I was writing. I still have no idea what any of these are about. Please buy the book, anyway. My aunt is dying, and I have to get her medicine. That part about my aunt isn't true, but wow; got you going. Got me going: I just formed an idea for at least two more stories out of only one sentence. Also, buy the next book in advance, so we can catch up about that aunt.
