OverviewThe dystopian fiction novella by Russian-American writer Ayn Rand, written in 1937 and first published in 1938 in the United Kingdom. A young man is known as Equality 7-2521 insurgents by doing secret scientific research. When his movement is discovered, he flees into the wilderness with the girl he loves. Concurrently they plan to found a new civilisation based on rediscovered individualism. Individualism is the core theme of Anthem. The entire text is practically a parable conceived to illustrate the importance of Ayn Rand's idea of individual will. It has some of Rand's most gorgeous imagery. It's short and delightful, as the others have mentioned, and it supplies a good introduction to Rand's spirit.
