He began his study of pre-Civil War Brooklyn in 1990 while residing in Brooklyn Heights, New York. His research culminated in the publication of Old South Brooklyn Entrepreneur - Anson Blake 1789-1868 - Exemplar of Antebellum Wealth - A Financial and Commercial Biography (Outskirts Press 2024) containing much historical information about the early development of the original City of Brooklyn. Mr. Lawrence is a graduate of New York's Union Theological Seminary and the clinical residency program at New York's Blanton-Peale Graduate Institute.
