Excerpt from Anglo-Saxon-Charms in Speculum The 0311113954 and forty-six charms considered here include incantations properly so called, as well as numerous remedies depending for efficacy on the superstitious beliefs of the sufferers. Besides the sixty two typical charms selected for the text, reference will be made to eighty four others, which will be designated by double letters, aa, bb, etc., according to the group to which they belong.1 Examination reveals distinct characteristics which severally appear in a certain number of the charms.
