This book relates the horrors and the heartbreak suffered by the farmers and their families as they watched their stock slaughtered and their world destroyed during the Foot & Mouth epedemic which swept the U.K. in 2001/02. The author was the only Slaughterman employed for the duration of the outbreak culling 43 farms and killing in excess of 3,000 animals.He was also the only Slaughterman to be employed at the U.K.s one operational burial site where he interred over 45,000 carcasses. Gordon was born in Stockton-on-Tees in 1953 and having passed the 11 plus he went on to Secondary Technical Education.He left school at 15 years without any academic certificates and seved a 5 year apprenticeship as a Slaughterman/Butcher. After a spell in the Royal Military Police he returned to his old trade from which he retired disabled in 2002. He has been married to Linda for 38 years and has two daughters, Michelle and Lisa plus a son Craig and 11 grandchildren. He now lives in the rural village of Stillington enjoying his life long hobby of breeding and racing pigeons with his son as partner.He loves the countryside and wildlife and is a keen conservationist.
