OverviewExcerpt from Ancient Laws of Ireland, Senchus Mor, Vol. 1: Introduction to the Senchus Mor, and Achgabail, or Law of Distress, as Contained in the Harleian Manuscripts In connexion with the important part ascribed to these poets and Brehons, so soon after their conversion to Chris tianity, in the composition of such a law treatise as the Sen chus Mor, it is interesting to notice that the Salic law1' was drawn up by four eminent Chieftains of the Franks, before the conversion of those tribes to Christianity, as it is sup posed about the beginning of the fifth century, and before ad. 421. Towards the end of the fifth century the Salic law was, after the baptism of Clovis, reformed by him in the several articles that appeared incompatible with Christianity.
