Overview

The motivation behind the research presented in this book stems from the modelling of stochastic processes occurring in present day research of performance analysis of data handling systems. The book consists of four parts. The first section is devoted to the one-dimensional random walk, the workload processes and to fluctuation theory. Absorbing and reflecting processes are also reviewed here. The book then discusses the two-dimensional random walk, as well as stationary distributions of two-dimensional reflecting random walks. The final two sections contain an analysis of the two-dimensional workload process, concluding with an investigation of the N-dimensional random walk.
