Today‟s world is the information world, where everyone needs information for something or other. People need information to make new inventions which eventually could make the life of humane easy and convenient. For the information need, people are always in search of good and authentic information which could help them out in their work or research. It is a general practice that people publish their research output in journals or sometimes present them in conferences which are later published in its proceedings. Mostly the primary sources are required for further research. As more numbers of people are engaged in research now a day, the number of research publications is at a rise everywhere in the world. They are more dependent on libraries for their desired information. So libraries have a big responsibility to satisfy their information needs. Book and journal selection in a library is a difficult task as the rate of publication is very high now. Globally research output rose by around 5% in 2018, to an estimated 1,620,731 papers listed in a vast science citation database, Web of Science, the highest ever. (Makri). There are still high numbers of literature available in Science, Social Science, and Humanities which are not included in Web of Science and Scopus. So the libraries face a lot of problems in identifying publications those are useful to the users. Bibliometric study is very useful in that regards if conducted by the librarians carefully.
