Analyse the historical narrative of nationalism in Fernando Pessoa's Message

Overview

The Portuguese writer Fernando Pessoa had originally completed his most famous work the Message as a collection of forty four poems linked to the theme of national achievements. It was first published in the year before his unexpected death. Essentially the Message is Fernando Pessoa's arguably unorthodox means of presenting a historically based narrative of Portuguese nationalism, arguably with a bit of modernism and even more of the avant garde thrown in for good measure. The following evaluation is an analysis of that epic collection of poetry concerning the national achievements of Portugal as presented and interpreted by Pessoa. The evaluation will discuss how and why the Message was written in the narrative way that it actually was, and also whether or not it achieved its author's objectives for it.
