""An Outline of the History of Kożuchów,"" by Tadeusz Szetela -.Translated by Frederic S. Topor ( A story of determination, self-reliance, cooperation and faith) While the story of the parish church focuses on the virtue of Faith, the story of the village history also displays the values of hard work and perseverance that the immigrants brought with them to America. It is a testament to those and other values that Tadeusz Szetela, by his own admission a relatively uneducated member of the community, could author such a comprehensive account of the village's history. Through narrative and over 80 photographs, this book tells the story of the burdens of indentured serfdom, legally outlawed in 1848 but not finally stamped out until the manor properties were parceled out in the early 1900's. These ""parcels"" were then made available for purchase by the poor families who lived and died on that land in which they worked in servitude for generations. They were finally able to attain the joys of liberty and land ownership but only through loans and contributions from their families who now lived and worked in America.

Frederic Topor is the grandson of Polish immigrant grandparents from southeastern Poland. Born and raised in Massachusetts, heearned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Engineering in preparation for a 35-year career with AT&T. In retirement, heearned a Master of Arts Degree in Theology from the St. Vincent DePaul Regional Seminary in Florida and with his wife Jane, nowlives and serves the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Palm Beach. His travels throughout Poland and his passion for genealogyfed a desire to know more about his heritage and a desire to share what he learned with others in the English-speakingcommunity.
