Table of ContentsReviewsThis second, revised and expanded edition provides a comprehensive introduction to the origins, Scriptures, and history of Christianity, first in relation to the Abrahamic faiths (Judaism and Islam), and then in the larger setting of traditional African and Asian religions and spiritualities. As such, the work is a much-needed survey of world religions from a contemporary, global perspective. The chapters on Augustine and Thomas Aquinas are especially to be commended for insights into their original historical and cultural contexts, followed by a judicious critique of their influence on subsequent theological developments. --Wanda Zemler-Cizewski, Marquette University This second edition of Cyril Orji's An Introduction to Religious and Theological Studies is an expansive primer for students, contextualizing Christianity with a global panorama, at the same time as being respectful of a myriad of religions and spiritualities. Orji provides instructors with a complete and nuanced guide to the fields of religious and theological studies and makes complex scholarly material approachable and interesting. With so much to choose from, including key terms, beautiful images, important dates, systematic explanation of religious worldviews, and review questions, instructors may use this book and teach to their strengths. --Michele Saracino, Manhattan College This is the work many scholars of theological and religious studies have been waiting for. Cyril Orji has shown how Christian theological and religious studies can be grounded in elaborate dialogue with other religious traditions. By giving a prominent place to indigenous religions, Orji offers scholars the pathway to follow in decolonizing the disciplines of theology and religious studies. This text displays the fruits of elaborate research and excellent teaching. --SimonMary Asese Aihiokhai, University of Portland Dr. Orji offers a wonderful resource for introductory courses in religious studies and theology.
