Reviews

An excellent introduction to personal finance.--Chris Chatwin Carioti′s Personal Finance is interesting, concise...and is easy reading that keeps the reader′s interest. It does not over discuss a topic, rather the main ideas are presented to make a point.--Jane Schappert Carioti′s Personal Finance textbook delivers key content on critical components of one′s personal finance journey in a logically present/easy to understand format. Based on my 10+years of postsecondary experience teaching this course, I feel as though the students would easily relate to the presented content.--Mark Ryan I found this book to be more relevant to a college student today. It describes in depth how to avoid debt and what to do when you find yourself in that situation and to avoid getting in financial scams.--Cindy Moss It is actually the best Personal Finance textbook I′ve seen. I don′t even use a textbook anymore because I couldn′t find one that I felt included all the topics I review in my class and that was easy to read for students. I think that students will find it an interesting read.--Tricia Hersel It is more practical; more targeted for practical information needed by college age adults, who are more concerned with their financial future. [The book] has very good definitions up front in the chapter of the key concepts. These are clearly and simply defined. The chapters have some good step by step processes--renting for example.--Tom Collins There is an emphasis on self-awareness not included in other texts.--Kimberlee Davis This a very good Personal Finance text. The material includes current thinking. There was a good bit of discussion about cryptocurrencies. Students need to be aware of these types of investments with a good amount of warning.--Walter F. Boyle This book breaks complex topics down into manageable steps that students can integrate into their own financial planning. Students will enjoy the hands-on approach this book provides.--Dyan Pease This book takes a personalized approach to personal finance and requires a student to assess themself and their attitudes toward money.--Konnie G. Kustron This is an excellent introductory personal finance text. It meets students on an emotional level--dealing with that first before moving on to a task orientation.--Bruce Kline This is an introductory personal finance text that integrates emotional and relationship well-being with financial well-being.--Axton Betz-Hamilton ""...Really going to deepen students′ understanding and...boost their comprehension.""--Daniel Okamura ""Student performance after implementing Vantage is incredible...this is a really tangible way to see that.""--Karen Deeming ""This is the smoothest student onboarding process I have ever experienced. Everything is syncing and the students were able to figure things out with almost no help from me.""--Echo Leaver ""Extremely valuable! Interactive, engaging and simple to use.""--Alyssa Salazar ""I am really excited to have tools that help motivate students to actually do the reading...""--Emily Hopkins ""I have used every other major digital platform that exists, and I can say that Vantage has no equal.""--William Parent ""I think that Vantage [is] an ideal system that will promote engagement of students.""--Linda Trautman ""It really helps you wrap your head around what you′re learning and come to a complete understanding of the course material.""--Aubrey Akins ""My learners really enjoyed the SAGE Vantage experience. Many of them said it forced them to read, which aided in their comprehension...The feedback I received is that they all really enjoyed the interactive nature of the program, as well as the [number] of activities...""--Daniel Amoruso ""With Vantage, I set up my course in under 10 minutes, which is unheard of...I love Vantage!""--Karin Machluf

Author Information

Kristen Carioti is the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Mount Mary University, a private women's college in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She earned her MS in Applied Economics from Marquette University and her PhD in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her research is in the areas of self-employment, gender economics, and financial literacy. As a personal finance enthusiast, Kristen is particularly passionate about personal finance education. She sees her work as an extension of her university's mission to educate women to transform the world. Kristen's mission is to empower students with the skills and mindset to reach financial freedom, because it's hard to transform the world when you're living paycheck to paycheck. Kristen lives in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, with her husband, Joey, and four children, Gus, Tula, Bernadette, and Maxine. When she's not working, parenting, or managing her house-hold using a complex web of Excel spreadsheets, she likes to journal, color, go for walks, lift weights, and find reasons to use her label maker. No matter what she's doing, you can always find her listening to podcasts on economics, cooking, parenting, and, of course, personal finance.
