An Introduction to Error

Overview

""An Introduction to Error explores how facts align, or misalign, with the heart, where ""error"" isn't fault but space to see more clearly. Lockwood's poems reveal how, as she writes, ""I ran in socks / across the carpet, thrilled / with fright but powerless."" In signal poems like ""My Chemistry,"" in which the methods of tracking ocean currents resonate with Lockwood's personal exploration of time and yearning, inquiry drives both science and the lyric impulse, linking them to our reach for truths that keep slipping away. ""Error"" isn't failure, but a lyric path through mystery and doubt. Science and soul collide in this dazzling collection."" -Ed Skoog, author of Travelers Leaving for the City

Reviews

""A feast of poems."" -Writing the Northwest ""A brainy, passionate, wildly original book; a primer for surviving, with love and courage, on a threatened planet."" -Rosanna Warren, author of Hindsight ""A work of textural delicacy and tensile strength. Lockwood's poetic voice has the rigorous grace of scientific methodology coupled with the tenderness and patience to allow each poem to work its own elegant calculus of measure and balance."" -Laura Da', Washington State Book Award winner, author of Severalty ""If love were an experiment we could execute in a lab, then these poems would be the notes: clear-eyed, detailed, and, above all else, responsible to their irresistible and intrinsic truth."" -Keetje Kuipers, author of Lonely Women Make Good Lovers
