OverviewIn 2012, Kirsten contracted TEN (Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis), a life-threatening condition caused by an allergic reaction to a drug. Within a few days, she loses 65% of her skin. This leads to a series of medical and psychological traumas (an inner tornado), and a decade of almost unbearable agony and misery. Breaking her ankle during a holiday, turns out to be an important moment in which she discovers that she is a 'normal person' again. She decides to write a book about her experiences. Kirsten describes how she faces the contents of her mental safe, in which she has stored all the physical and psychological traumas brought about by her illness; the pieces of her soul left behind in the pain and sorrow. She gives an accurate but tough description of the illness TEN, the ensuing traumas she endured, and how she processed them all. She does this in a raw, gripping and at times extremely humorous way. With her book, Kirsten not only wants to share her experiences, she also wants to share her story to create more awareness for the rare condition TEN and its life-changing impact. Moreover, her aim is to offer support to anyone who has suffered trauma caused by a medical condition and who wants to heal. 'An Inner Tornado' offers a story of hope and survival in a world of medical and psychological traumas.
