Excerpt from An Examination of the Official Reply of the Neapolitan Government Passing by, then, the statements which no attempt is made to dispute, I shall advert, firstly, to those which, being contradicted, are also proved to be erroneous, or which, upon the whole, I see reason to withdraw secondly, to those which are indeed contra dicted without my having found any cause to recede from them thirdly, to those which are noticed with the apparent intention more or less of leaving an impression that they have been contra dicted, but without any real contradiction at all. I must likewise notice cursorily a fourth and a singular class; that, namely, of contradictions which have been volunteered by zealous defenders of the Neapolitan Government, but which, instead of being taken up and adopted by its recognized and official advocate, are passed by in total and very significant silence.
