Reviews

This is one of the best explorations of childhood trauma and its effect on a person's psyche that I have ever seen. The author has done a wonderful job shedding light on this complex and difficult subject. I am really inspired and impressed. Using metaphorical characters, including faeries and woodland creatures, Cooper tells a story of abuse, personal healing, and then healing of an entire community from the trauma of sexual abuse, through open dialogue, creating safe spaces, creativity, connection with the earth, and many other real-life therapeutic techniques. This book is a must read for survivors and practitioners alike, as well as anyone who is interested in helping others move forward from trauma. --Sarah Symons, Founder and Executive Director of MadeBySurvivors and Relevee As I was falling asleep one night, thinking about the characters in An Elf's Journey, I realized I had fallen in love with them. I had felt their shame when they spoke the truth and weren't believed. My heart sang when they courageously stepped into their healing journey. Anyone who has experienced inappropriate touching will identify with the characters' ongoing struggles with fear and trust issues, experience aha moments in their own healing journey, and begin to understand their family's reactions to disclosure. -- Marilyn M.
