An April Affair

Overview

A vacant apartment. A traveling writer in need of a temporary place to stay. What could go wrong? If you're the landlady, more than you could imagine. Because until now, Amy Lynch, married since she was eighteen, has been a devoted wife, a doting mother to her now teenage daughters, and a stand-up member of the Logan's Creek community, not to mention her role as one of the town's Leading Ladies. The empty apartment is above her boutique, Treasures Abound, and the James Dean lookalike writer, Ryder Quinn, sees her nearly every day. It doesn't help that Amy's husband treats her like a platonic business partner instead of his one great love. Amy thinks her world couldn't get any more complicated, but then a competing boutique moves in just doors away, and once she meets the owners, she has even greater concerns. These eccentric out-of-towners with their furs and fancy cars throw money around like confetti. There is something sinister beneath their benevolence; Amy can feel it. Could they be the undoing of her shop, Treasures Abound? While Amy's husband ignores her concerns, Ryder steps in to help solve the mystery. Which throws the two together at all hours. How long can she resist Ryder's charms? How long can she stay in a marriage that's dying a slow and painful death? And what will her lifelong friends, the Leading Ladies, think about her if she chooses to leave her husband?

Reviews

Deborah's writing has a way of pulling you right into the story-every scene is so vividly described that you can see it, feel it, and experience it alongside the characters. They don't just exist on the page, they come alive in a way that stay with you. This is more than a love story, it's a riveting, emotional journey that keeps you on the edge of your seat from the beginning to end. I found myself completely invested, turning pages quickly because I just had to know what happened next. If you're looking for a story that draws you in and doesn't let go this is definitely one to read. I can't wait for more stories about the characters of Logan's Creek. Susan Dodson Kudo's to Foliart and her second novel ""An April Affair"". The richness and humor of her storytelling ability brings both laugh out loud and tearful, heartfelt moments. She continues to dive deeper into the lives of her Leading Ladies and the town of Logan's Creek with all it's colorful characters and characteristics. A mystery to solve and steamy romance, along with Foliart's writing style are the secret sauce for the reader wanting more! Lisa Huckelbury Fort From the moment I stepped into A Small-Town Somewhere, it was the kind of story that lingers. The kind that reminds you where you come from and gently calls you back to who you are. Deborah Spencer Foliart has created a world that feels both deeply personal and universally familiar, filled with characters who live and breathe far beyond the page. It's the kind of storytelling that invites you not just to read, but to remember. As an actor, writer and director, I am always searching for stories that hold truth at their center - stories that feel lived-in, emotionally honest while being quietly transformative. This one stayed with me long after the final page and it became clear that it was meant to live in another form as well. I am honored to be developing A Small-Town Somewhere into a feature film and to help carry these characters and this story to the screen - expanding the world Deborah has so beautifully created. This is only the beginning and I cannot wait for audiences to experience A Small-Town Somewhere in a whole new way. -Riley Rae Baker

Author Information

What happens when a writer buys a bookstore? For Deborah Spencer Foliart it meant being surrounded by books that gave her the inspiration for a novel she'd been thinking about for a long time. She has since sold the bookstore/coffee shop, giving her the time to finally write the story that's been brewing for far too long. Her debut novel, A Small Town Somewhere, the first of the Logan's Creek novel series. She'd already written dozens of business and visitors guides, a ton of marketing copy for Arkansas newspapers, and had hosted leadership seminars that drew in thousands. While she found writing non-fiction satisfying, nothing compared to creating a story filled with characters that took on a life of their own that somehow seemed similar to her hometown in Arkansas.Deborah spends much of her time traveling and taking stunning photographs with her husband Alan. When not on the road she's home in Arkansas, visiting her family, friends, and meeting with her longtime girlfriends, the Leading Ladies. If not landed in Arkansas, she could be found writing and enjoying their lake house on Table Rock Lake.
