Overviewdefinitive content of the gospel. Yonggi Cho is the founder and Senior Pastor Emeritus of the world's largest church located in Seoul, Korea. Many see Yonggi Cho representing the future paradigm of evangelical and Pentecostal Christianity in Korea and throughout the world. Although much has been written addressing Yonggi Cho and the Yoido Full Gospel Church, there continues to be widespread ignorance and misunderstanding of Cho's theology. This study focuses on a comparison of the fivefold gospel promulgated by Yonggi Cho with the apostolic gospel. Cho's fivefold gospel is not the apostolic gospel presented in Scripture, but is another gospel (Galatians 1:8). Cho has added to the apostolic gospel and distorted many orthodox doctrines of the Christian faith. The Yoido Full Gospel Church has all the characteristics of a cult and people are deceived into believing that they attend a Christian church. Cho's theology is a synthesis of Christianity, shamanism, and occult practices; a deceptive mixture of error and truth which appears Christian. Cho takes Scripture out of context and twists it to conform to a preunderstood paradigm. This study finds further research warranted in the areas of Yonggi Cho's theology, church growth methods, occult influence, and the impact of Cho's theology on churches in Korea and other countries.
