Excerpt from An Address Delivered Before the Alumni Association of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, in the City of New York A year ago to-night I was not here; some of you were; you who were, are to blame for my appearance here tonight in this guise. Perhaps it would have been better for all of us had I been here. I should, at any rate, have escaped the labor-pains of composition, and you would not have been obliged to listen to the feeble cry of the child born. A year ago to -morrow morning, or thereabout, while seated in my easy chair waiting for the coming man, (my eye, roam ing lazily over the morning paper, fell upon a paragraph announcing that the Alumni Association of the College of Physicians and Surgeons had met the evening before and had a good time generally. Suspecting no evil, I regretted my absence from the meeting, and was rather disposed to blame the secretary for not taking more pains to jog the memory of at least one alumnus who would have greatly enjoyed the reunion.
