In 1997, The Arthritis Foundation awarded her a Celebrate Independence Medal for a profile story she wrote highlighting a young woman's struggle with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Nicole has authored three books, including Amina, Princess of Zaria, which was a brief Amazon bestseller for books in African literature in 2007. Amina's Wall is its second edition. Nicole is an MFA incumbent at Seton Hill University. She currently holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in interdisciplinary studies with concentrations in both journalism and social science. She currently lives in New Jersey with her husband Jason and their two daughters, Danielle and Gabrielle. Carlos Lemos is a freelance illustrator, cartoonist, and caricaturist from Montevideo, Uruguay. He has illustrated more than 50 children's books for individuals and publishers around the globe. Carlos began his career in 2006, and then later, in 2010, became a visual arts teacher.
