A BOOK THIS GOOD SHOULD BE ILLEGAL As a former career criminal turned Hollywood screenwriter, let me tell ya - strap yourself in and take a ride on Jimmy Maxwell's no holds-barred, gloves off, roller coaster ride of crime!!! This isn't some spray over Maaco paint job that only scratches the surface of what it takes to be the chief lion in the den of thieves -- you'll be shown up close and brutishly personal what it took to be the boss. When he hits someone in this book, your jaw will feel it Jimmy takes you deep into the ruthless mentality of a convict on the run with an audacious pride for the moral street code of only inflicting harm upon those violating the unspoken laws of the jungle. And Maxwell knows who's good, and who's not, with surgical-like precision. He doesn't vilify what he was, but what he became, in visceral storytelling that keeps your eyes whipping through the pages to a climatic end. And like coming off a three-day binge, you'll only want more American Outlaw bristles with violent passion, howitzer wit, and a virtuoso style tell-all of what pride can do to us. The author mixes the Outlaw's horrors with a deep vein of mordant humor and reflective rage. Violence isn't glorified, but Jimmy didn't run from it -- When someone trespassed in his lair, they'd better be able to rumble. You'll be shown the Price of his Pride with dynamite suspense, loaded with thrills and wicked fun that few autobiographies can beat. And for those not in the crime life, this is as close as you can get without having to pick up a gun. Buy this book. It may save your life one day if you run into Jimmy Maxwell in a dark alleyway. - Brandon M. Wyse - Screenwriters Guild, Los Angeles, CA. American Outlaw is a raw and unapologetic journey into the world of one of Oklahoma's most notorious inmates. In sincere and colorful language, Jimmy Maxwell conveys the complex, bewildering - and sometimes terrifying - truth of time spent running from the Law. -Michael Mason, editor, This Land magazine CUSTOMER REVIEW: I was surprised, what a great book! By a Criminal Justice student I found this book completely by accident, I was doing research on true crime for my criminal justice class, when I found Jimmy Maxwell and his son being featured on msnbc's lockup. Through an internet search, I found Mr. Maxwell was a published author who had written about his life and I thought it would be an interesting read considering my major. I went into this book with a preconceived notion that, though this book would no doubt be educational, it would probably be a poorly written diary of a guy trying to convince the rest of us that he was a bad man due to an abusive childhood and societies lack of understanding of him. Instead, I found an extremely well written, surprisingly honest, story of a man willing to accept the responsibility for his own failings. It was a book of evolution, which took me on a ride in the mind and heart of the man and allowed me to glimpse into places I never would of gotten to see (some quite dark), from a angle that I never would have perceived. I saw the verisimilitude in the grey areas of this book, there is good and bad in is all, and Mr. Maxwell takes you on an adventure of self examination, explaining his hopes, thoughts and regrets in a book that is action packed from the first page to the last and is very hard to put down once you've picked it up. I chose this book purely for academic reasons, but I am reviewing this nonfiction novel and giving it five stars because it's just a great book. I also wish to encourage Mr. Maxwell, you have new beginning, you definitely have a career as an author. Good job.

Author Information

JIMMY MAXWELL currently resides in the state of Oklahoma. A true Outlaw, Jimmy has been in and out of prison since the age of eighteen. Over the years he fought his way to the top of one of the most feared gangs in Oklahoma. He has been featured onMSNBC's 'Lockup', and soon to be onDiscovery channel's I Almost Got Away With It. Jimmy has survived five different riots, and has escaped on multiple occasions from prison, jail and reform schools, as well as evading capture from the U.S. Marshals and the States Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force, for months on end. He has narrowly avoided apprehension and death time and again... from which he now writes books and stories. Although Jimmy has since retired from gang life, he did so with honor and the blessing of those who love and are loyal to him, and still remains an extremely respected and influential member of the prison community on both State and Federal levels. He now uses his books, stories and influence to help others avoid the pitfalls of prison and drugs. Jimmy attends Tulsa Community College in pursuit of his literary career and is a dog trainer and animal activist, for Gone to the Dogs rescue program at DCCC and Parole-a-Pet (facebook). Teaching animals and humans alike, - there is a better way. My choices have cost me years of family, friends, freedom on the outside - and, a lot more - Let the bad choices I made be a chance for you not to follow my path. And if you're just a voyeur into this type of world - welcome to the jungle and what lies beyond a prison wall. I'll hold nothing back as I take you inside places people pray not to end up in. You'll be safe reading this from your world and be glad you're not participating in it. Let my life be the life you live vicariously through. - Jimmy Maxwell
