The author graduated Cum Laude from Wake Forest College with a major in sociology and a minor in classical Greek. He also received a bachelor's and master's in divinity, and worked as a pastor until joining his wife's family practice medical clinic as a pastoral counselor and business manager to spend more tiem raising his eight children.
