Always a Sailor: Life of a young man entering the Navy and his experiences over the next ten

Overview

The book relates the time that I spent in the United States Navy as both a Reservist and a career sailor, going from bootcamp to sea duty and then making the move to become a Commissaryman, Navy cook, and the funny things that happened to me and by me to make this adventure more enjoyable. This book educates the person thinking about entering the military service while providing the parents of those children with an inside look of what they will be experiencing especially in the beginning with bootcamp. Not everyone enters any military service with the idea of becoming a career military person, but I enlisted to have fun and make a career in the Navy. Too many of those entering the service spend most of their time waiting and saving money to go home of leave. Without looking for opportunities to have fun and enjoy military life, members become bitter and hate their time in the service.

Author Information

Born in Brooklyn, New York, on April 26, 1945, as a three-pound baby boy born to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Olsen and named Eddie. Life started with a fight, and I've been fighting ever since. Growing up in Brooklyn was the start of my never give up behavior and development of the slap-stick comic personality I have. Joined the US Navy and sworn in on my birthday in 1962. I do not know why my parents let me do that, but I guess they believed the Navy was better than my being a Marine. They were right because if I had not signed in to the Navy, I would have gone with a friend of mine into the Marines a few months later and probably would have dropped out of high school. The purpose of this book is to provide young people of the things that happen during life in the Navy and provide parents with insight as to what their child will be doing in their Navy life. This book is written by me with the humor part of my brain. These incidents actually happened and only the name of those involved have been changed to protect their identity. I'm very proud of my Navy career and those who have severed their country in uniform and I hope you enjoy reading this book.
