Altium Designer (zuvor bis 2005: Protel) ist ein EDA-Programm der Firma Altium Limited zur Entwicklung von Leiterplatten. Die heutige Firma Altium Limited ver ffentlichte 1985 ihr erstes PCB-Layout-Programm Protel PCB in Australien. 1986 folgte der Export in die USA und Europa. Im Jahr 1987 kam Protel Schematic hinzu. Die Software erschien als erste ECad-Software berhaupt 1991 auf Windows. Mit Protel 98 wurden die einzelnen Software Komponenten in einer Software integriert. Seit 2005 wird die Software unter dem Namen Altium Designer vertrieben. Altium Version 6.8 bot im Jahr 2007 als weltweite erste ECad-L sung eine Leiterplatten-Visualisierung an.
