OverviewAl Parker was born in Hyde, Cheshire in 1939. His parents and uncles and aunts introduced him to the hills at an early age. Later, a school teacher rekindled this interest which led to him and a school friend to take up hill walking. This in turn led to them becoming keen on rock climbing and mountaineering. After meeting other climbers of a similar age, the group decided to form a mountaineering club; this became The Alpha Mountaineering Club. Within a few years the club had grown in size and stature becoming the main driving force of its day. This book tells the story of the Alpha Club in a time when unlike today there were few women climbers around and none who were leading climbs of the top grades. Not all of the Alpha Club were top climbers but they were all males, hence the title of this book.
