General N.C. Vij was the Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army from 2003 to 2005. He was the Director Genewral of Military Operations during the Kargil war in 1999 and was responsible for coordinating the operations of the Indian Army and the withdrawal of Pakistani troops from the war zone.
