OverviewIt is well known that one of the important factors in a successful hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is the graft-vs-tumor effect (GVT), likely mediated by lymphocytes in the stem cell product. This chapter reviews the evidence for an allogeneic GVT effect in the transplant setting and presents recent data on the use of donor apheresis products as a source of cells for allogeneic adoptive immunotherapy. Topics include GVT effects in murine models and in clinical transplantation, treatment of relapse leukemia, toxicity of adoptive immunotherapy, prophylactic DLI, cytokine- mediated immunotherapy, and nonrelapse complications after allogeneic HSCT.
