She has published several books on her research interests, which include the lives and experiences of young people, gender issues and family relationships. Rachel Thomson, a sociologist by discipline, worked for the National Children's Bureau (1990-96). Her research interests include the study of the life course and transitions, as well as the interdisciplinary fields of gender and sexuality studies. She has a track record in developing innovative methodologies for the exploration of lived experience and social processes, including ways of understanding the interplay between biographical and historical time.
